The Amazing Eye

I was shocked to read about a young girl on a meth binge ripping her eyes out. This is so appalling, disgusting and just plain unbelievable, that I had to read the article.

Poor, poor girl. She was injecting meth, which is insane. When you can stay up three days by snorting a bump, what the hell does mainlining do. She had a psychotic breakdown, (or a religious experience) outside a church. She was sure the voice of god was telling her that a sacrifice was needed to save the world. She felt she was being called to pull her eyes out to save the world.

I remember, very vividly from my Catholic School days the biblical advice that it was better to pluck your eyes out then to allow them to cause you to sin . I got that, as a proverb about eternity. Basically anything is better than being sentenced to eternal damnation.

This made me really think about what a miracle the eye is. A jelly like sack of insanely intricate neurons sitting right between the dirty polluted outside world and the even more delicate jelly of command central , the human brain. Giving us the rich feast of color and movement that makes life so grand.

I can’t imagine the horror of having gone through the ordeal of the meth girl. And yet the article says she is at peace. A new peace has taken over , something she could never find on drugs and I’m sure she’s seeing and feeling things she had not previously imagined.

She plays guitar and feels finally truly at peace.
