The DE-centralization of the music business has presented one huge problem. How do people find new music ? Before Digital , we could depend on a radio DJ or an MTV VJ or a Music Magazine to tell us who was new and good. Now it seems to come from many places. Major playlists on Spotify or Apple have new artists that they push. But minor playlists are many times more responsible for new artists. No one can discount the power of Music Festivals for exposing new talent . As predicted years ago things are getting much smaller. A younger crowd needs to know not only what’s good but what is hip or fashionable. Music is a major staple in the formation of a young persons identity. This is where the future gets hazy. With attention splintered will there even be major stars anymore. Things may break into much smaller groups , each with their own superstars. The idea of worldwide fame my be a thing of the past. Local musicians may revive the history of the minstrel and one again become kings.
