Nikki I’ve Been There Too

“Nikki I’ve Been There Too” Is the last song recorded by one of the best line-ups for Abraham Cloud. Check out the amazing slow-hand honky-tonk guitar by Mike Packard, add to that the unbeatable rhythm feel from Robert Lee and Johnny G (or Lee-G as they have been called) and you have a really cool sound brewing. This song should be out soon with a bunch of other very rare recordings in the upcoming , “Freshly Broken Class” CD. The song “Nikki” reminds me a lot of “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison and “In the Summertime ” by Mungo Jerry. It’s just got that cool sway to it. Lyrics are pretty amazing too, seems like a comforting call from one alcoholic to another. “Nikki, I’ve been there too.” “When you’re hiding all alone in your place, trying to wipe the night off your face,” is one of the best lines ever. You would have to reach back into Paul Westerberg and the Replacements Catalog to find a better one. The other major influence seems to be “Joey” by Concrete Blonde. Same subject matter at least. Joey seems a lot more desperate. I actually thought I heard either Nikki or Joey in the Revolution TV promo.
