If You Knew (you’d be dancing too) Abraham Cloud and the House of Love
Wow , talk about rare. I don’t think anyone has ever heard this. It is Abraham Cloud on vocal with two members of the legendary House of Love. You can see the ultimate party people House of Love in the Baby Lemonade video. This is a pretty trippy song. The video is from Demolition who I guess must work at the Musicians Institute studio where it was recorded. It features Swiss mastermind Felix Lemlei and a guy who supposedly now works with Pink Floyd named Robbie. The band was originally called Compound but you can’t find much about it anywhere.

I HAVE A CAR – ABRAHAM CLOUD
Right off of the classic CD “Another Successful Breakfast” here’s the “ode to the auto-mo.” It is one of those blessings we hardly think about in LA, but how wonderful it is to actually have a car. And who better than Abraham Cloud to brag about it. It sounds 80′s and it sounds Car’s-ish but it also sounds Folky and Psychedelic and yes even therapeutic (especially on headphones.) I’ve been counting what you’ve been missing Yesterday it was a hundred and forty-six Shows and movies, late-night beauties, Drive-thru food and swap-meets in the sticks I know you all so well I understand just what you’re going through I’m going through it too….. but I have a car and I can drive Far from sorrow and money borrowed Half-a-tank and I can start my life again Roam the high-road, miss the high-note Sixties rock’n'roll at a hundred and five I know it all so well I understand just what its going through I’m going through it too….. but I have a car and I can drive I hope someday you understand The key to life fits right inside your hand But its up to you to decide Whether to walk or to drive And I’ll be comin’ by at eight if you change your mind I have a car (Could it be Jimmy Carr, the famous English Tax Guy he’s talking about ? )

Never Ask Why
More Psychedelic Pop from the legendary Milkman Collection. This is some really stoney Cloud music. Guitar Madman Garwood takes the track in a “Tomorow Never Knows” direction , while Walters and G roll out the ecstatic groove. Abraham Cloud has never sounded more like Tom Petty’s brother than when he’s singing, “We’ll Slide On Down In Very Slow Motion. ” Maybe its Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride” that keeps coming to mind when Abe sings , ” I can tell by that look, that you’re going nowhere. ” Thanks to Andrew for the Video.

Learning To Pretend
Check out “Learning to Pretend.” Sounds a little like Bowie in the eighties. You’ll find it on Abraham’s third CD, “Children of the Milkman” . Check out the great , Grateful Dead guitar work of John Garwood and the stellar bass and production from John Gregowski . The track is really on fire. Not sure what its about but Abraham Cloud lyrics always have some cool angles in them. Thanks to Chromex for the Groovy Slide show and remember new Cloud should be out by June 2012. Learning To Pretend by Abraham Cloud When you wake up in the morning, Can of beer in your hand, And your mouth feels like a pillow, And your head is hurting bad, When the wind comes crawling through your window, Calling you to follow it again, You might feel that your life is not your own It’s always waiting up around the bend, LEARNING TO PRETEND As you drive down crowded freeways, Bright-White-Fear fills your eyes, And you think you feel so desperate, But we all feel that way most the time. Don’t be scared of fantastic new illusions They may turn out to be your only friends, Find a groove and let it take you down the highway, You might never find that kind of groove again, LEARNING TO PRETEND And the magic of the moment just lasts an instant When you see it gotta’ grab it, Won’t be hangin ’round, Won’t be hangin’ round too long. LEARNING TO PRETEND LEARNING ALL YOUR LIFE THEN YOU’RE LEARNING ONCE AGAIN LEARNING TO PRETEND When the view you used to be so used to Gets flattened by some fat and angry men …

Everybody’s Doin’ Better Than Me
This is off of the classic, “Voyage To Afghanistan,” album and features one of the best Abraham Cloud line-ups . Johnny G on bass, Garwood on guitar and Larry on Drums. ” Everybody’s Doing Better Than Me.” is basically what everybody thinks most of the time Everybody’s doin’ better than me, everybody and their sister Marie. Everybody’s doin’ better than me. Everybody’s got a color TV, a hundred channels and de-coder for free. Everybody’s doin’ better than me. Everybody’s got a colege degree, plans for the future that don’t include me. Everybody’s doin’ better than me. Everybody’s got a modelesque face, life’s an adventure at a super-high pace. Everybody’s doin’ better than me. I try my best to think everything through. I analyze what is what and who is who. While I sit thinking the train leaves the station, I never get where I’m going to. Everybody’s got a beautiful view, high on a hillside with jacuzzi and pool. Everybody’s doin’ better than me. Everybody’s got an Uncle Ramone waiting patiently to give ‘em a loan. Everybody’s doin’ better than me. Even people in the military see the world and get some money for free, yeah everybody’s doin’ better than me. Everybody’s in a rock’n'roll band, making records and touring Japan. Everybody’s got a high set of hopes, matching towels and some good friends who know everybody at the top of the heap. Everybody’s got American Dreamz to stay at home eating peaches and cream. Everybody’s got a stash in the bank, credit cards and an …

Sad Animal Stories
Sit back and enjoy a pleasant little story about a charming little town where no one can afford the food , but somehow they are satisfied with the stories of Good Dr. Woodenhead. Perhaps this is an anthem for Occupy Wall Street because deception is everywhere. It sounds a little like modern day America, The good Doctor is of course the financial establishment who seems to have made off with everything that wasn’t nailed down and the townsfolk are us , buying the story and the hope that the hunger will go away by the light of the campfire. It sounds like a fairy tale , and fairy tales sound like nightmares if you read them at night. Abraham Cloud sounds a bit like Harry Nilsson doing the Point. Simple and effective social commentary. Sad Animal Stories is the deception of the masses by the elite. The fear for survival. The hope , The religion, The quieting , opiates administered by Dr Woodenhead . and lovely animation by Lovely.

Company of Strangers (lyrics)
When news about Earthquakes , Tsunamis and Nuclear Fallout fill the air its pretty easy to start thinking about mortality. How long do we really have ? And how should we spend the time we have left, ‘Company of Strangers,’ is about how in the end, life really comes down to a moment or two. How 20 years can pass in a flash. And most of our lives are spent surviving instead of living. I wonder if any of the Japanese Earthquake Victims would have chosen to spend more time working if they had it all to do again ? hi, how are you ? how was your weekend ? and what are we going to do. today ? No. I’m OK. It’s just that this office is starting to feel like a cage. in the distance, it shines like a beacon. offering shelter to the lost and the weakened. but here. in this room. I’ve whiled away hours and planted the flowers of doom, in my life. smiles, like they say, can wipe away sadness, but this little game’s here to stay. FOR AN INSTANT I thought I knew you. That day you broke down and smashed up the cooler. crystal cool water drenched all the carpet. wild nervous laughter filled out department. as you screamed out, ” Hey what you say ? Why don’t we start our own company, and we’ll call it the Company of Strangers.” for twenty-five years I have sat by your side typing letters and memos for people who hide behind doorways with titles in hallways of horrible crime. we never had time for the things that we wanted to do when we saved up enough to be happy. it’s true in the end all …

The Children of the Milkman
If you were raised by two loving parents you can never really understand the unsettling feeling of not knowing one of them. Identity is bestowed on the child of a complete family and it is fought for hard, by the children of broken homes. This is the theme of “The Children of the Milkman,” both song and album. Abraham Cloud, with tongue firmly in cheek, imagines a town gathering where it is revealed to all the townsfolk that they were spawned from the same anonymous “Milkman,” What happens when long held comforting beliefs and pulled out from under you ? What happens your family history seems comical and random ? These and other questions are answered on the full album. THE CHILDREN OF THE MILKMAN Yeah, you gotta’ know who you are, you never quite resembled Ma and Pa, you never really learned to play guitar. All right, It’s time to face all the facts, you’ve always been attracted to the map, you like to see some order on the rack. WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE MILKMAN IN NUMBERS FAR TOO LARGE TO EVER COUNT THEM WE’LL BE LEAVING SOMETHING USEFUL BY YOUR DOOR I found a picture of Daddy, he’s dead now but I bet he died real happy, what would Daddy want you to do? strange desire to wake up in the morning and drive. why else would you look so good? why else would you look so good? why else would you look so good in white? WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE MILKMAN CONCEIVED BETWEEN THE FAUCET AND THE FOUNTAIN WE’RE THE ONES YOU LEFT BEHIND

Off
Off is such a simple concept, Get off, take off, take off your clothes In the middle of the rip-off but don’t set off the alarm. The crowd was off the wall at the sing off. And the market faced a sell off when the product was a write off and not the one off, off Broadway hit that they imagined. And even with her clothes off the policy was hands off because the trade off was just too much to bear. A little off topic, the mayor wanted his days off, off the record so as not piss off the people who paid him. It was hat’s off at the play off to the pitcher who shook off the blast off and went on to dust off the mound for a game that was off the chain. Off I stole five dollars from myself. I saw it sitting on the shelf. No one was looking so I took it for myself. I spent five years inside a box, I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t talk, until I found out the box was never locked. Whatever it is, I don’t want it. Whoever it is, I don’t need it. All that I really want is to get whatever’s on my mind … off. I took a trip to who knows where. I shared a cab with Fred Astaire. He couldn’t face the fact that we were almost there. I touched the stone that they say cures. It cured my need to be absurd. So I touched the tour-guide and she turned into a bird. Whatever it is, I don’t want it. Whoever it is, I don’t need it. All that I really want is to get whatever’s on my mind… off.

Teenage Acne by Abraham Cloud
The trauma seems to fade with time but if you let yourself you will remember the living hell of Teenage Acne. Here you are awkward, embarrassed , clamoring for any kind of acceptance and there it is , a boil the size of a Rubik’s Cube growing on your nose. Many people never recover from the wounds of adolescence. Abraham Cloud’s “Teenage Acne” sounds a bit like some 80′s Power Pop but there is no disguising the torture when “it takes a 12 pack of beer just to look in the mirror.” DJ Pipes made this,
