We have all read about the fall of the Roman Empire and it seemed justified. Rich, horny bastards raping and pillaging the peasants for a thousand years finally had the price. There is movie justice in the story. It satisfies our need for the righteous to prevail. But what if Rome never really fell? They just got really smart and went underground. What if Rome under a different guise is still in charge ? What if we still pay, and we are still subservient to the Cesar of our territory ? What if the same people have always been in charge ? And any shift in power was really just theater so people didn’t get upset. First them, then later their children actually rule ? Wouldn’t this explain why nothing much ever really seems to change ?
